Nitriding |
Nitriding has the purpose
to increase the surface hardness in order to improve the wear-resistance.
This can be achieved by diffusing nitrogen or nitrogen in
combination with carbon into the work piece.
Possible Nitriding Processes
Gas
Nitriding |
Under amoniacal gas,
at temperatures of 500 - 530°C, depth of nitration:
0.1-0.9mm. |
Plasma
Nitriding |
Under vacuum through plasma, at
temperatures of 350 - 580°C, depth of nitration:
0.1-0.9mm |
Nitrocarburizing |
Under amoniacal gas with the addition
of carbon, at temperatures of 540 - 630°C, normally
a nitrocarburized layer of 10 - 25 µm can be achieved. |
