Diamond Penetrator Hardness Testings (Vickers)

The test operation is basically the same as the Brinell Hardness Testing but with a different penetrator. Instead of a bullet an obtuse equilateral diamond pyramid is pressed into the workpiece.

The hardness is calculated with the diameter (d) of the pyramid's impression:

HV = 0,102 x F/A = 0,189 x F/d²

d = d1 + d2 / 2

Advantages and Disadvantages
All-purpose hardness testing – only for medium-hard and hard metals.

Applicable for:
Hardened steel, hardened surfaces, parts of a microstructure
